Frequently Asked Questions

Is Reformer Pilates suitable for beginners?
Yes! We have different types of classes, one of which is the Fundamental Reformer class! This is made just for beginners like you. You’ll learn how to use the machine, the basic principles of Pilates, and how to move at a pace that works for you with clear instructions. You don’t need any experience; all you need to do is show up and be willing to move!
I’ve done yoga or mat Pilates. Can I skip Foundation?
Even with yoga or Pilates experience, we recommend taking at least one Fundamental class to learn how the reformer works and how to move safely with resistance.
What level should I start at?
New clients should begin with Fundamental. If you’ve done reformer before and feel confident with the machine, you may join Level 1 classes. When in doubt, start slow and build up.
What are the benefits of Reformer Pilates?
It improves posture, builds lean muscle, enhances mobility, supports injury prevention and recovery, and can aid weight loss by increasing metabolism and muscle tone.
What’s the difference between Mat and Reformer Pilates?
In Mat Pilates, people use their own body weight as resistance on the floor. In Reformer Pilates, a machine with springs and pulleys provides resistance and help. Reformer Pilates gives you more accurate movements, works more muscles, and lets you do more different kinds of movements.
Is Reformer Pilates suitable during pregnancy or for rehab?
Currently, our Reformer classes are not suitable for pregnancy or injury rehabilitation. Please consult your healthcare provider for personalised guidance.
How long are classes?
Most classes are 50 minutes. Early morning and lunchtime sessions are 45 minutes. Please arrive early, especially if it’s your first class.
How many people are in each class?
Our Reformer Pilates classes are kept small (10 people max) to ensure you receive individual attention and proper guidance in every session.
What should I wear or bring to class?
Wear comfortable, stretchy clothes you can move freely in. We recommend grip socks for safety and hygiene. Bring a bottle of water—mats and all equipment are provided.
What’s the cancellation policy?
We have a 12-hour cancellation window. If you cancel later than that, your class credit will be forfeited.
Can I use yoga credits for Reformer Pilates (or vice versa)?
No. Credits are separate unless you’re using a specific bundle or membership that includes both. Please check your plan details.
Can I extend my pass if I don't use all my classes?
Unfortunately, no. Passes are valid for a fixed time and cannot be extended. We recommend planning your classes in advance to make the most of your pass.
Where are Reformer classes held?
All Reformer Pilates classes take place in our dedicated studio at 52 South Mall, Cork City Centre—our new wellness hub that’s home to both ālaya Pilates and Himalaya Yoga Valley.
