Yoga is a vast ancient healing science that comes from India. It has been practiced there for thousands of years as a way for regular people to improve their health. Yoga currently benefits more than 15 million people around the world. In short yoga is a way to connect the mind and body and balance all systems of the body.
You have probably seen some yoga poses already. Yoga incorporates these poses called “asanas” which improve strength, flexibility and muscle tone with breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation techniques to reduce stress and increase wellbeing.
Yoga is a holistic system designed to connect the body and mind though these simple and easy to do methods. Yoga brings balance and harmony to all systems of the body. Yoga is a philosophy and a way of life. Yoga is not a religion and people of all faiths and beliefs benefit greatly from it.
Absolutely! Yoga is for everybody- it is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels to increase their health irrespective of body type, age, flexibility or shape.
There are many different options available within each yoga posture that will suit everyone. Many people think you need to be flexible to take part in a yoga class, this is not the case- a great yoga teacher will always have a range of levels available to their students. Whilst your flexibility and strength will increase from a regular yoga practice it is not a prerequisite to begin.
Yoga is also a wonderful complimentary practice for those who go to the gym, run or have a strong workout routine as it utilizes muscles in the body in a three dimensional way that no other exercise does to support existing fitness routines. If you are pregnant we have specialty pregnancy classes on our schedule that we recommend.
Yoga is a non competitive practice that we encourage students to practice with compassion and kindness to the self.
There is no such thing as a perfect posture and even our school Director Lalit an advanced yogi who has been practicing in the Himalayas since he was 7 years old will never say he has gotten it “right”- we are always growing. You never need to compare yourself with others. This is a wonderful aspect of yoga- we can always develop further and so we learn to appreciate where we are at all times.
Your practice will evolve and change and it is perfect because it is unique to you! Our teachers will certainly challenge you and guide you in relation to correcting alignment and deepening postures. They will help you to make progress relative to you as an individual.
Nope! Come as you are. Wear comfortable clothes (the kind you might wear to go for a brisk walk) and you are ready to go.
We have everything you need at our yoga centre which is a yoga mat, some yoga props and a warm smile from our excellent teachers.
As you can see from our price structure we believe that everyone should have access to yoga without it hitting the pocket hard and this goes for fancy accessories too.
Yes… people get pretty excited about yoga! There are grounds for all of that enthusiasm. People fall in love with yoga for lots of reasons but basically it makes you feel great. Here are some of the reasons people keep coming back to their mats.
Yoga:
For guys who worry that yoga is for girls, fear not! Approximately a third of our students are men and you will find plenty of other guys here at the studio and in your classes. We have men from the armed forces, sports people and plenty of runners who attend.
There are also lots of guys at the studio looking to regain their health after time away from being active. Some of our most dedicated students are guys who have started their yoga journey with us (sometimes suspiciously...) and found strength, flexibility, focus and a positive challenge at our classes.
We recommend our “Lets Get Started” class which you can attend with other students in the same shiny new yoga boat as you. Have a look at this class and many more on our Class Descriptions page.
If you have any questions you can always drop us an email with your query or if you wish we can call you and answer your questions on the phone- simply text or email us your number requesting a call back. We would also love to see you here in the studio so please do drop in to us.
We look forward to meeting you.
Try not to eat anything heavy up to an hour before class. Let your teacher know if you have any injuries or medical conditions. Come 10 minutes early to fill out a registration form.
We have a lovely chill out room where you can sit before & after class and enjoy a cup of herbal tea. Always take the class at your own pace.
Enjoy!
